Trouble Shooting

From our meeting last week, we have pretty much finished the web based conference application and is ready to be downloaded to Home Screens. What pretty much is left is that we need to generate a QR code for posters/pamphlets in which conference guest can download the app. Alborz has taken the initiative to speak to the visual identification team to work out the details. I have decided to speak to the social media team so they can broadcast the code via the various social media accounts once the code has been generated.

Otherwise, we are simply trouble shooting and ensuring the user experience is a seamless effort.

The light at the end of the tunnel

This past weekend, the conference app got together to make some solid decisions towards uploading our created pages. For the speaker bios, we ran into a little bit of difficulty with the images that were sent to us (poor quality/ pixilated images) and ended up recreating the bios with images of better quality pulled off of google search. With the change came a much more simple black and white design which does flow better. Also during this meeting we uploaded our location page, which really did not give us any issues at all. In the greater scoop of things, I would pretty much say we are about 78% done this app, but due to such short time to submit the app (Apple's app approval is the deciding factor), I'm pretty sure we'll have to go with plan B and use the web based app.

speakers page

This past week was quite busy in terms of placement work, but it has also been productive for the app. At this point in time we've split the work and are working some what independently on our assigned task, but checking in collectively to make sure we are all on the same page. This week my job was to create the "speaker bio layouts", in which will be uploaded to their respective pages. This is a generic template I've created for the bios..

My initial thoughts on this design was how to make the page look interesting in such a simple theme (the black and white theme  web-based app we showed in class).. we currently have a group meeting scheduled this saturday to implement our new pages/ upload working content

Couple Updates

Well this week surely has been a productive one.. to start off, in response to your question we actually have not gotten into dreamweaver as yet, because we felt our initial design was a bit complex to execute. So instead we've created 2 much simpler application development wise. Adrianna actually found a much simpler way to convert our designs into an app. We are going to create a web app which we could convert into a native mobile app to put in the store.

In other news we were also informed by Bushra (one of the council leaders) that she has good ties with the head of BlackBerry. The lady does everything from creating the apps to marketing and advertising, and she's down to work with us to create the app for Emerge. Bushra will be following up with us this upcoming class to provide us with more details.

Our next move..

This past week the group was not too active in terms of physically producing anything, but we did plan our next few steps. However we did receive information pertaining to the key speakers with a bio and head shot, which is great because we can actually replace the fillers with some actual content! To me that feels like a step in the right direction. Also we have decided that we will pursue the actual app development through DreamWeaver CS6.. there's a new option, an app template, that we'll look further into as well the process of getting the app over to the app store. Another approach we have taken was to split up into 2 teams of three, each handling their respective app (conference or mag) on the development side.

Wire Frames Part 2

For this week, each member of the group created a wire frame - 2 to 3 pages of the app. Although there has not been an official set colour scheme, we figure that would be an easy fix.

This is the first draft design I came up with for the conference.. The concept of this app is to bring the basic details of the event to our guests, from the floor plan (washrooms, meet and greets etc) to guest speaker background information. We wish to exhibit maybe 2 specific articles as a "free trial" if it is decided that the magazine is to be sold. Also perhaps at the back of tickets there will be a qr barcode for this app to be downloaded. As a group we have yet to come together to create one cohesive design

Wire frames

As it is fairly still early in the project we have been active on our group platform. For this week we have decided that we'd each design a wire frame or  two for this up coming saturday. We have decided to design for the iphone platform for now, seeing how we all own one and are used to that interface. With this we can draw from our personal experience with the devices to optimize the users experience. After presenting our ideas.. we will then go to choose the elements we liked out of each and try and incorporate it into a master design.

Genisus

With this being the beginning of the project, the group mostly had speculations on how we were going to approach and handle this app. Within this week we have managed to create a group platform (a wiki) where we can all communicate in between our busy schedules. Personally I have completed an assigned section of the semester wide plan that was assigned last week. I have also been in close contact with the art direction team in order to get a sense of the direction they were headed in to possibly design an app markup for next week. The hardest task this week was getting everybody on board with the wiki as we all were getting settled into our new placements. For next week we each look to develop possible designs for this app.
